THE PRESENTATION (Read/scroll down)

99% of the time the official Subaru WRC car concept pics have looked almost butt-acurate to it's real world counterpart. And 95% of the time the WRC car holds VERY strong lines to the production street STI.

Now with the vast dissapointment in the WRX, Subaru has still been quick and keen to point out that even so, we would be completely thrilled and surprised with the STI. That is because for once, the STI is no longer JUST a WRX with only a wing and wheels to differentiate the two anymore aestehtically. The STI will look VASTLY different from the WRX, with a different body design, fender flares, and such.

Now peace it together.

Concept WRC car that should be 99% accurate.

Now, what the production STI may look like. :o:o:o

Once you get over your balls and "ZOMFG ITS A HATCHBACK GIRLIE" hard ego holding you back, this is one DAMN SEXY car.

Now, throw the WRC car over the test muel we saw running the ring, and you can see they look VERY similar with the fender lines running in the same way through the front and rear.

Now throw on some other colors for good measure.

And then we have one HELL of a case.

That photoshop comparison to the photo from the ring is sick! I really hope the production STi really is that broad shouldered and those "foglight covers" are tight.

Wow...now that I like.

Wide fenders really clean up the cars look. Kind of reminds me of a Hot Wheels car which isn't bad :). The wing is extremely large and I am pretty sure something like that won't be offered on the production version of the STI. I would expect a wing similar to the one pictured in the ring photo.

but the BBS wheels won't be on any. They went out of business. Probably Enkei will be standard issue?? Either way, I'd drive one

I like the pics being put out for the new STI but I'd still like to see the production. I'd probably get one anyway but I 'll wait a year or 2 just cuz I got my WRX last year in Aug.

Also, love the photoshopped versions above. I want the dark gray one, bottom left of the 4.

I really hope the production STi will retain those nice wide front fenders

I love the look. I might wait till the 2009 for the paddle shifter.

I'd rock the wing.

Autocar.co.uk:

Look past the huge wing and rally-spec front bumper of this Subaru WRC car and you’re looking at the next WRX STi, the car that will hopefully give the awkward new Impreza a much-needed dose of attitude.

Released as a taster of Subaru’s next rally car, the WRC Concept (which will be at the Frankfurt motor show in September) uses a bodykit that will turn up in a slightly toned-down version on the production STi in 2008.

Our spy pictures of the STi testing in Germany show that the two cars share the same blistered wheel arches and front wing design. These are not merely plastic addenda, but fully integrated new panels. Major changes to the standard Impreza body pressings like these would be too expensive for the rally team to do by itself; it’s only financially viable for the production version of the car.

At the rear, the production STi will get quad pipes instead of the rally car’s twin exhaust, but the shape of the rear valance will be very similar. The disguise on the test car’s front wing appears to be hiding an intake similar to the rally car’s. The rally car even wears a small STi badge on the front grille.

The STi will be the most ferocious of the new Imprezas. It will have wider tracks than the standard car, which will help to address its ungainly looks, and should be good for over 300bhp from the flat-four engine.

It will also be fairly expensive, costing around £30,000 in the UK. Subaru will not be importing the WRX Impreza to the UK, making the STi the only turbocharged Impreza available here.

Subaru will also unveil the facelifted Tribeca at Frankfurt. It gets new front and rear styling along with a new 3.6-litre engine and a “more responsive” five-speed auto.

why would you want paddle shifters?

why would you want paddle shifters?

Because you have people/enthusiasts that may want to have a Choice between the new EVO and the STI with this option. Not only because it may be a "Cool" new gadget but also because quicker shifts may mean quicker trap times.

why would you want paddle shifters?

I think people want them to get away from typical shifters but don't want to go straight into an automatic. paddle shifters would be cool but i still like traditional shifting.

I do plan on purchasing an STi when they come out. Personally in response to the paddle shifters... I'm still undecided. There are some days where I would love to have a manual andsome where I'd love to have paddle shifters,. Short of getting the sequential dogbox with paddle-shift like the WRC cars, my options for always being happy are sort of limitied. I'm waiting until the STi is out before I decide on wether or not to wait for the 09.. or just have some fun with the 08.

But this also brings up another question..... what about the 2010 redesign!? No they have no official announcements, but Subaru seems to love tweaking the look every 2 years (for the past 6 years at least). My mind is already ticking trying to figure out what they are going to come up with next.
