View Full Version : Thoughts on a car I might buy

At a local used car dealer there is a WRB '03 WRX w/ 41k miles and they want $18,990 for it. It was originally for sale a couple weeks ago for like $22k and it just recently went down. IMO, it still seems a little expensive, but I drove it and everything is mechanically sound and is absolutely spotless. It's completely stock minus some different corner lenses and I am really considering buying it. I know that I can probably find one being sold by a private seller for less, but I just don't think that I can find one with less miles and in the same condition as this one. AND it's blue! Tell me what you think!

I think you can get a 2004 STI for $19,000 more or less and you get way more car...

Is the decission you want/need to make based on credit (Purchasing at a Dealership vs buying from private party)?

that price can definitely be talked down...i mean, the car is 5 years old now and the new WRX is around $25k right?

The test that they did in C&D said that the base price was $29,500! Holy ****! Isn't that about what the '04 STi's were when they were new?

I guess I just don't see them around here for very good prices. It seems like whenever one goes up for sale here the owner always wants way too much for it. To answer "sti 4 daddy's" question, yeah my credit isn't that great. I would much rather buy from a private seller. In your guys opinion, what do you think this car should go for?

because its a dealership I would say the right price would be anywhere from 12,900-15,599 but its your call.. you can try to talk him down even if it takes a few days.. because the more you look interested and hungry for the car, the more the dealership will take advantage of your thirst for it and charge you an arm and a leg. the best tool here is to Negociate. How long has the car been sitting on the lot? test drive a couple of more cars, whether at the same lot or at different lots and tell him that you can do better at a different dealership or that you will think about the WRB 02 and get back with him. maybe that might get him (Sales person) to re-evaluate his decission about doing what ever it takes to make this sale happen. Good Luck.

The funny thing about this whole deal, is that I work at a dealership as well. lol I've been looking for the right car for about the last six months and I just couldn't find it through my work. So went to another dealer in town. It's amazing how that will piss off the salesman that you work with. lol

On another note, this may not be the right time to buy a car. I'm gonna be having a baby girl in november so I might have to wait until early next year. I was just wanting to know if this deal is something that I just shouldn't pass up. Obviously not. lol I guess I'll just be patient and wait for the right car at the right time. Thanks for your input, guys!

There you go.. rationality kicked in ;) good job for being mature nad making that decission. Congrats! & Good Luck w/ your baby.

you also know (Especially that you work for a dealership) you have the option of going thru any deaslership and having them locate/find the right car at the right price for you so you dont have to do the "Dirty work" so to speak.

Yeah, I'm still going to wait until spring of next year probably. I've been saving some cash for my car fund, but my baby girl definately comes first. Looks like I'll just have to drive my DD Camry or my Datsun!

So my girl started having contractions yesterday afternoon. The doctors are giving her some meds to make them slow down because she's a little premature. Just thought I'd let everyone know!
